Transfer, Airport/Caracas to Isla de Oro
If you do not want to rent a car and drive to Isla de Oro yourself, then there are basically two ways to get to Isla de Oro: with a taxi or a with private driver.
In 2005 and 2006 there have been some instances of robberies involving airport taxis. These are very rare, but if you are concerned about security then a safer alternative is to arrange for a private driver. The cost is roughly the same.
TAXI
Taxis are available at the airport 24 hours a day and no prior reservation is needed. They are identied with a round yellow symbol, and the price can be arranged with a taxi company within the terminal (rather than at the curb with the individual driver). There is no pricelist and no set rate for going from the airport to Isla de Oro, but the current rate seems to be around Bs 200,000 in most cases ($93 at the official exchange rate, 2006). They only take cash and may be reluctant to take dollars.
The trip will probably take half an hour to Caracas, half an hour through Caracas, and then an hour and a half from Caracas to Isla de Oro; for a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes of drive time.
If you wish to arrange for a taxi driver in advance, here are the telephone numbers of some which we have used in the past. If you dial from abroad, add the country code (58) and omit the initial zero. Sorry, none of them speak English:
- Richard:(0414) 150 7721
- Wilson: (0412) 633 4240, (0416) 706 1123
- Teletaxi: (0212) 753 9122, (0212) 753 4155
If you know of others who you can recommend, let's add them to the list.
