Car rental companies
This page lists car rental companies in the Caracas-area. Although most of these companies are in Caracas proper, and not in the airport, they will usually be able to provide a vehicle in the Caracas airport. Some of them are also located in the airport or have branches in the airport, and are listed near the end of this page.
Since they work with foreigners, most of these offices will have at least one person on staff who speaks English when you call or when you email. If you call from abroad, add Venezuela's country code (58) and leave out the leading zero on all phone numbers.
WARNING:
Renting a car is more expensive in Venezuela than in most other countries. You should shop around for the best offers, however, the companies themselves are already well-informed of what their competition charges and they price themselves accordingly - so any savings you find will not be a lot, and prices will still be higher than you probably expect. There are lots of bargains in Venezuela, but renting a car is not one of them. Car rental agencies charge very over-inflated prices here.
If you only need transportation to get from the airport to Isla de Oro, and back, then it is more economical to hire a taxi or arrange for a driver to take you. A car rental would make financial sense only if you also need a car during your stay in the country and not just for the airport transfer.
We are hoping that we may one day have a better, local alternative to the expensive Caracas-based car rental companies, for instance in the form of a Rio Chico based mechanic who can rent out older vehicles for a modest fee. One owner has also discussed a small dune buggy rental business on the beach. Such initiatives are more than welcome and sorely needed, but none currently exist ... so you are stuck with this list for now.
